Positively Lenten Eve

by Mauverneen

An American has not seen the United States until he has seen Mardi-Gras in New Orleans. -Mark Twain

Mardi Gras. Fat Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday. Carnival.      Hurricanes, Paczki, pancakes or crawfish. Same tradition, different foods. Of course the idea is to eat, drink, and party because tomorrow is the day we have to give it all up. No more fun until Easter. It has merit, even if you're not religious.
It never hurts to put over-indulgence on hold. Give up smoking, give up drinking, give up swearing... maybe by Easter Sunday we will have kicked at least one bad habit. Like I said, even if you're not religious, the idea of fasting, or being temperate, has merit.

“Lent is a time for discipline, for confession, for honesty... ” N.T. Wright

It is Positively Tuesday after all. Maybe I can give up complaining? For more than just Tuesdays, maybe for 40 days. I can try.
Today is Fat Tuesday, or to make it sound better, Mardi Gras. Almost anything sounds better en fran├žais, n'est-ce pas?
