POSITIVELY WANDERLUSTING

by Mauverneen

Every year about this time wanderlust starts to kick in. I begin to get that familiar longing - that travel itch.

Maybe it’s the cold, maybe it’s cabin fever, maybe it’s knowing spring is coming but won’t be here soon enough. I start to daydream about warm places, sunny places, exotic places. Mexico, Arizona, Costa Rica, Greece, just about anywhere the sun shines. Anywhere that’s warmer than here. Somewhere I don’t have to wear three layers of clothing, boots, gloves and a hat just to go to the mailbox. Somewhere I can point my camera at something new, something awesome, something worth tripping the shutter for. Somewhere I can walk into a restaurant I’ve never been to before and try a new dish that I will ask the chef the recipe for. Somewhere. Anywhere. Anywhere but here it seems.

POSITIVELY AGING

by Mauverneen

Yikes! I just had a birthday. No, I’m not going to tell you which one, but it’s one of those milestones most people don’t look forward to and find out once it’s over that it’s not so bad after all. Actually – I like my birthday. It’s a day for me. Myself. And my family makes it special by taking me to dinner, showering me with gifts and bringing cake. I insist on cake.

I once read a birthday card that said one’s age is simply mind over matter – if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. I got a chuckle out of it but it got me thinking, that’s pretty much true. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. If you don’t dwell on the number, but more on how you feel and what you do, rather than what you can’t do or don’t do, life is much easier - much happier. I don’t know how I got to be this age but I’m here although in my head I’m still about 25.

POSITIVELY BORED

by Mauverneen

Boredom is setting in. The holidays are over, the decorations have all been taken down and put away and Mardi Gras isn’t until next month. I don’t have a job (I’m retired), no dog or grandkids, it’s too cold to go for a walk and the winter Olympics won’t be on ‘till next year. I could bake cookies, but I would just eat them all and put on weight, so that’s out.

2013 – POSITIVELY A NEW YEAR

by Mauverneen

Wow. 2013. It sounds so futuristic.

Happy New Year everybody – and may we all stick to our resolutions - for a couple of weeks at least. I don’t usually make New Year’s Resolutions – although I think about it a lot I can never decide which resolutions to take on. There are so many I SHOULD make.
