One of my favorite spots in Wales was the town of Tenby and nearby Caldey Island. I was spending a week driving through Wales, and those were two stops on my itinerary.

Tenby is a lovely old seaside town with remnants of its Medieval walls, sandy beaches (I had been told in Cardiff that Tenby had the best beaches), colorful buildings and wonderful shopping, along with some gorgeous coastal views. As always, I wished I had more time to spend there.

It’s misty and rainy as I write this but last year was very dry so I’m thankful for the rain.

Rainy days and Mondays don’t always get me down – generally they just put me in mind of other times, other places I’ve been in this kind of weather. I often joke - when it rains for days on end - that I should move to Seattle. The weather may be soggy there too but at least the view is better.

It was a wet, rainy August day as I drove through the Brecon Beacons in Wales with low, rolling patches of gray clouds interrupting the view.

Snowy Lonesome

 

There is quiet beauty in the starkness of a winter landscape

Just the basics; the bones, as it were - like the bareness of an open soulIn unadorned simplicity

Lacking nature’s accessories of leaves, flowers, color

And on the snow, a splash of red in a lingering leaf or a bird at the feeder

Shades of gray fade to color once more when the sun returns, vibrant and nurturing

Meantime stay inside, stay warm, refresh

Drink soup and tea and hot cocoa and dream your dreams
