Positively Green

by Mauverneen

"Green green it's green they say on the far side of the hill.
"Green green I'm goin' away to where the grass is greener still."

Those are the words to a folk song that I remember from the sixties.

Looking out my window the past couple of days, I can't help but hear them ringing in my head. And I think 'The grass could not possibly be any greener on the other side of the fence.' Not today. It's green, emerald green, grass green, Ireland green! I don't remember ever seeing everything so green. But I probably say that every spring.

Yes, Spring! April showers and all that. All that fresh, new green really pops on a rainy day. The grass has greened up, new green leaves that weren't there yesterday are popping out of branches everywhere, and green is sprouting up in the garden; from yellow-green to the deep shades of the Evergreen trees, I wonder how many shades of green I see. And I'm loving it. Winter is a black and white world -it's shades of gray monotonous and depressing. And then Mother Nature gets out her colored pencils. Her favorite color will change soon enough, but now, in April, her favorite color is green!

A Positively Sad Tuesday

by Mauverneen

Yesterday's fire at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris has given so many people around the world a heavy heart. I am grateful to be one of the millions of people who have seen it, walked around it, stepped inside, and was awed at it's beauty.

To be walking along the street in Paris, or sitting on a boat floating down the river Seine, and suddenly see this iconic landmark rise up in front of me caused me to catch my breath. So recognizable, so beautiful. And I could only tell myself "You really are in Paris."

These are not the best photos of Notre Dame you will ever see, but they are mine. And the memories are mine. And I will hope that someday I can go back and revisit her. and tell her how happy I am that she survived.

It's Positively Spring - Really?

by Mauverneen

Spring officially arrived last week. That Polar Vortex we were stuck in made it seem like a longer than usual winter and we couldn't wait for spring to get here. But in typical fashion, it can't decide if it really is or really isn't. Spring is such a fickle season.

Robins? Yes, they're here. The other day I counted 20 on my lawn at one time! I think they had just landed. There are several out there now, wondering if they're a bit early. But I'm assuming they have good information from a reliable source and that spring really is here. I can't wait for the rest of the summer birds to arrive and fill the trees with their songs.

I did see the first signs of spring in the garden just yesterday. The Hostas are poking their little heads up through the leaves and taking a look around. Not yet, I tell them. I don't want you to freeze. But I have seen no other sure signs of spring yet. No crocuses or daffodils celebrating the season, no little green buds on the trees. But there will be. Soon, I'm sure. And when spring springs, it will be glorious! Color will be everywhere. New birds will be at the feeders. New chicks will follow their parents in adorable little formations, new fawns will test their wobbly legs.

Spring. Everything is new, and fresh, and we appreciate what we have missed. And this season we are in now, this waiting season, is Hope. And Faith. And Patience. We know it will come. Soon. And it will be worth the wait.
