Positively Random

Southern Peaches - Peach Cobbler anyone?

So - today is World what day? We've got several options to choose from. Casimir Pulaski day, Sausage Pizza day, National Spread Joy day are just a few of them. I kind of like Southern Food Heritage Day. From fried green tomatoes to black eye peas to okra, I've got to say I do enjoy Southern food.

I was introduced to it right after I first got married. My husband's family was from Arkansas and driving down to visit aunts, uncles and cousins was a treat. Not only because I got to meet some wonderful people, but I got to try some wonderful cooking as well. Cornbread, catfish, fried okra and cobblers were all new to me. Since then I've been to New Orleans several times and got to try more new-to-me Southern foods. Like crawfish, and etoufee, although those and most other New Orleans specialties are cajun or creole influenced cooking.

Authentic Crawfish Boil

Did you know there is a Southern Food and Beverage Museum ( located in the city of New Orleans? I now have that on my list of places to visit on my next trip there. I think I need to start planning.

I like good food, and I like trying new dishes. When I travel, I enjoy trying the regional specialties, and am willing to try almost anything once. Almost. So here's to good Southern cooking. My mouth is watering just thinking of some of my favorites. Go have yourself a nice big slice of Pecan Pie! Right after your fried chicken and collard greens. Yum!

As always, words and photos are my own, and require permission to reprint.

However, feel free to share the blog in it's entirety. In fact, I encourage it!
